Nicknamed the King of the Cod, Restaurante Pereira da Laurentina is the restaurant you should go to if you love seafood and want to try one of Portugal’s most famous signature foods, bacalhau (codfish).
Located near the Praça da Espanha, Laurentina is known for its codfish prepared in numerous different ways. In fact, according to Portuguese tradition, there are over 365 ways to prepare it, one for each day of the year!
As a starter, you can opt for some simple bread and butter (since it is not included with your meal in Portugal), some chorizo, or some codfish cakes, which are fried codfish and potato pastries. As for a main course, you can choose whichever codfish dish pleases you, from assado, to à brás. You can have your fish boiled, baked with cream and potatoes, grilled, accompanied with roasted potatoes… the list goes on. As for dessert, have some arroz doce (rice pudding), or maybe some flan.
If you’re looking for the real Portuguese experience, you should try to reserve a table on a Thursday, which is Fado night. For 35 euros, diners can enjoy their dinner while listening to Lisbon’s traditional music genre, Fado.
