I truly believe that a US Western Road Trip is a mandatory bucket list item for any traveler because there is no better way to see the best that the American West Coast has to offer in one fell swoop.
There are so many different ways to construct your ultimate, American, Western road trip, which all depends on what is most important to you on your journey. If you value nature and all it has to offer, you should incorporate more national parks, mountains, and camping into your itinerary than someone who is planning on experiencing the West Coast in the lap of luxury by shopping, gambling, and staying in 5-star, waterfront accommodations.
In order to get a taste of the various components that make up the American West Coast, we have created the Ultimate Western Road Trip Guide that can be modified to fit your more specific needs.
The best time to go on book your road trip is during the summer. Despite the heat, nothing compares to cruising down a sunny and dry West coast.
As a first stop, we recommend starting in San Francisco where you can bike the Golden Gate Bridge, experience Alcatraz Island, walk down Lombard Street, take a cable car, have some Ghirardelli chocolate, and visit the Fisherman’s Wharf. From there, drive down to Monterey for some seafood, and get onto the Pacific Coast Highway for a scenic drive along the world’s largest ocean. Then, of course, you need to stop in Los Angeles to see the Hollywood sign, grab some In-N-Out burgers, walk the Walk of Fame, possibly take a tour of a production studio, drive down Sunset Boulevard, have fun at Santa Monica Pier, and tone your muscles at Venice Beach.
You can then proceed to San Diego, or head on over directly to the state of Arizona to be awed by the Grand Canyon. As one of the top Natural Wonders of the World, the Grand Canyon is truly impressive and immense in size. If you’re looking to add a bit of history to your road trip, you can throw in a few of Arizona’s ghost towns as stops along the way to Las Vegas.
The last must-see for our West Coast guide is Las Vegas which will be incredibly hot during the summer, due to its inland location, however it is well worth it to gamble, party, and tour all of the incredible hotels that are in this crazy city.
Keep in mind that it will most definitely be hot during your road trip, which will only add to your incredible experience when you’re driving through the American desert and Route 66. Not only is there desert on the West Coast, but there are also so many beaches where you can relax on your vacation!
Depending on how long your trip is, you can easily add or subtract to this guide to best accommodate your version of the Ultimate Western Road Trip!
