The term “perfect holiday getaway” is defined differently by each person, so not everyone is going to have the same criteria when searching for a destination. With that in mind, here’s a list of things to consider when planning your future holiday vacations.
For a lot of people planning a trip revolves around their budget. For popular winter destinations the prices for flights and hotels tend to increase, especially during school breaks. If you’ve got a modest budget to work with, it’s your chance to get creative with your destination, your accommodation and what you’ll do during the trip. Brainstorm a list of cheap holiday events or holiday deals to help with your selection. Maybe you can stay with a friend in another city to save money and to spend some quality with a friend that you haven’t seen in a while and you’ll get to see the city through a local’s eyes. You could also decide to pay more for a flight than for the accommodation or vice versa. If you’re working with a budget you’ll have make some sacrifices, but if you’re creative enough you will definitely have a great time no matter where you go.
Sun or Snow
Now it all depends on what you want to escape to. Are you one to ditch the cold weather for a piña colada and a nice tan, or a snowball fight and a day on the slopes? Of course there are the in-betweens, which are the metropolitan cities that don’t experience neither sun nor snow during the winter. So think about what kind of weather you want during the winter when deciding where you would like to go for the holidays.
Depending on your personal situation you might be going on this trip solo, with friends, family or your significant other. Therefore, you’ll have to consider everyone’s preferences when picking the “perfect holiday getaway.” If you’re going solo you really don’t have to consider this, but if not, this makes it significantly more challenging. A tip is to decide “sun or snow,” then to brainstorm activities you would like do as a group or couple before even looking at destinations. This way you’ll have a list of possible activities, making it easier and faster to filter through destinations. This also makes it easier to plan the trip beforehand, since everyone will be on the same page on what the trip might look like and will know what they should pack according to the activities.
How long your trip will be really dependent on your vacation allowance, but it does play a big role in planning your “perfect holiday getaway.” If you’ve only got a few days, you might want to pick a destination where you can do and see everything you want to in a short amount of time. This means that the attractions or activities should be close to each other. Also, you should look for a destination where there are lot of holiday events so that you can do as much as you can. If you’ve got more than a few days, like a week or more, consider destinations that have a lot of things to see and do, even if they’re not exactly in the city you’re staying in. Like this you won’t run out of things to do on your trip and you’ll see a more of the area rather than just sticking to the usual tourist traps.
It was briefly mentioned in the previous paragraphs, but deciding what you would like to do during the trip is something you should definitely look into. For example, if you want to go to a specific ski resort, that makes it easy on choosing your destination. However, if you just know that you want to go skiing, you’ll have more options on where to go. So have a clear idea of your main goal of the trip to make choosing a destination easier and planning the entirety of the trip a breeze.
