China is well-known to have amazing and cheap street food. However, they do have some snacks that might be unusual to most people, but as surprisingly nutritious as well.
Fried Scorpions: According to vendors, frying to scorpions neutralizes their poison and the tail is actually the most nutritious part. They apparently taste similar to greasy popcorn with a buttery aftertaste.
Sea Horses: Sea horses are said to possess medicinal qualities that boost your kidney health. These can be eaten in a soup or, more commonly, deep-fried on a stick. It is also one of the most expensive items in the markets.
Silkworm Cocoons: Silkworm cocoons are not the most palatable insects due to their crispy dark outer shell. It’s actually spongy on the inside with a bit of slime. The flavour is quite nutty and tastes similar to shrimp, but some people find its texture too weird or disgusting to finish the snack.
Locusts: Vendors advertise these six-legged insects as environmentally friendly alternatives to meat and have a high fiber content. These are loaded with protein and surprisingly taste kind of like friend chicken.
