Char is One Epic Mom who enjoys beachside vacations with her family and travelling to destinations with rich culture and delicious food! While vacations are a phenomenal way to get quality time, the actual act of travelling with kids can sometimes be a hassle. Thankfully, this Epic Mom has flight and savings advice for the whole family.
FC: Air travel can be stressful for young families. Any tips for families travelling abroad together for the first time?
OEM:The first time I travelled on an airplane with my kids my daughter was 21 months and my son was 6 months old. Since then, we’ve travelled quite a lot and my top tip is to bring activity packs for them with novel toys, candy etc for the plane. I have one activity pack per child for when we’re going and one for when we’re returning home. That way they’re occupied for most of the journey.
FC: Is there a standout airline that is particularly kid friendly or one that isn’t?
OEM:Our family has really liked flying West Jet. Some of the flight attendants we’ve encountered on our various journeys have been quite sweet to us.
FC: Your blog also touches upon money saving tips as well. Any money saving tips for Canadians travelling abroad for extended periods of time?
OEM: Make saving for a trip a family affair. Decide as a family where you want to go. Check out videos of the place on YouTube. Once everyone’s excited, put out a jar and everyone can contribute to the family vacation to their hearts content. It’s not just about being on vacation together, it’s also about working as a team to make your family dreams come true.
FC: Are there any destinations you would recommend for families?
OEM: My kids’ love travelling to the Melia Tropical in the Dominican Republic, The Verandah in Antigua and cruising on the Oasis of the Seas, on of the ships from Royal Caribbean.
FC: Where is next on the bucket list?
OEM:Most likely back to the Caribbean. However, one day I dream of taking the kids to Paris to see the Eiffel Tower and the Mona Lisa.
